Just want everyone
to know out there that needs service work done on their Ham gear
that Bob, W4BBN is the guy you need to go to. I recently purchased
a Drake T4-XB and had it checked out by Bob. I sent the transmitter
to Bob and in less than 24 hrs. after receiving it he had an
evaluation and a estimate on what needed to be done. The
transmitter needed just a little work and an alignment. The charges
for this work were extremely reasonable! He performed the needed
work and had the transmitter ready to be shipped back to me in less
than day. Super fast service. Not being familiar with the
transmitter I initially had some problems with setting it up and
getting it on the air. I contacted bob via e-mail, and then
telephone and he was able to get me past the problems. I was quite
surprised to see how helpful, and responsive he was. You just don’t
get that kind of courtesy and help these days normally when having
service work done on equipment! I highly recommend Bob if you need
work done on your Ham equipment. He is the real deal and knows what
he is doing!Thanks,

The following is a testimonial concerning Bob
Lovell, W4BBN and his amateur radio repair work. I first
met Bob through a mutual friend, WA4WIA. I was having problems
with my Hallicrafters SX-88. Those of you who are familiar
with the SX-88 know that this valuable and rare receiver is not to
be trusted to just anyone.
Bob repaired the radio promptly and in my opinion very reasonably.
Recently I took some more equipment to Bob for repair. Some
was mine and another receiver belonged to a friend. Again, Bob
completed the work promptly and at a very low cost.
I would recommend Bob for any electronic work and most especially
for your amateur equipment. Good communications, timely work
and reasonable prices are what you can expect from Bob Lovell.

REAL HAM RADIO TECHS ARE HARD TO FIND
When my Collins KWM-2A quit working early in 2017 I went looking for
someone who could bring it back to life. I talked with several
people who advertise on the Net and found a variation of per hourly
costs ... as HIGH AS $90 per hour and as low as $20 per hour. I sent
it off to one fix it shop and they had it for over a month before
informing me it could not be fixed. Fedex back to me and then off to
a second fellow who everyone said was really good. Expectations were
not met and we shipped it back and forth 2 times and after using it
for 30 minutes upon the second trip back to me it QUIT AGAIN. I
called the fellow and his response was WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO
CHANGE EVERY PART IN THE RADIO? I calmly said no JUST WANT IT
About ready to give up I was speaking to a local ham who said I KNOW
A GUY IN ALABAMA AND HE FIXED MY KWM-2A AND ITS LIKE NEW. I
got his name, BOB LOVELL AND HIS NUMBER 205 467 0878 AND GAVE HIM A
CALL. BE HAPPY TO LOOK AT IT HE SAID. HE HAPPENS TO LIVE ONLY 2
HOURS AWAY SO I MADE THE TRIP. LONG STORY SHORT .... MY KWM-2A
NOW WORKS LIKE A DREAM .... HE HAS ALSO FIXED MY NCX-lOOO THAT TOOK
A VOLTAGE SPIKE AND NOW HE IS WORKING ON MY JOHNSON RANGER 2.
AFTER 59 YEARS AS A HAM I CAN TELL YOU BOB IS AN AMAZING TECH AND A
GREAT GUY TO DEAL WITH. HIS RATES ARE WELL WITHIN REASON AND HIS
TURN AROUND TIME IS REASONABLE. IF YOU HAVE A VINTAGE
TUBE RIG OF ANY KIND LOOK NO FURTHER THAN BOB LOVELL. BOB HAS
A STATE OF THE ART SHOP AND THE KNOWLEDGE TO REPAIR YOU RIG.

All the work that Bob has done for me on a
variety of radios, i.e. transmitters and receivers, have been done
with a very high level of perfection. I have never had to 'bring
back' a 'rig' to him for an additional problem, due to the fact that
he has been able to diagnose issues, and repair/replace parts, etc.,
with perfection. Bob's prices are extremely reasonable, and " turn
around time" is amazingly quick! In addition, Bob communicates with
me (via phone or email) regarding the issues, with the particular
piece of equipment, and what all is involved in making it work
correctly. This is one example of his extreme honesty, in that if a
piece of equipment is not worth the money involved to bring it 'up
to operational condition', he is very up front, and honest regarding
that particular item. I am so glad I "discovered" someone with
Bob's ability and experience and I have his phone # on "Speed
Dial"...As a "Collector", I find it very beneficial to have someone
who can check any equipment that I obtain prior to my using it.
Thank you on behalf of all HAM'S.

I have known Bob Lovell "W4BBN" for more than a year. Bob has a well
organized and clean shop. He stocks a number of repair parts and
tubes. He has repaired 2 Yaesu FT 101s, 1 Kenwood TS-530s and a
basket case Drake TR4C. Each of repairs were flawless when completed
and the transceivers are playing great! I highly recommend Bob for

After purchasing an HQ-180 for a modest price
on eBay, I contacted Bob via e-mail requesting assistance with the
radio since it was in original used condition and less than
sensitive on all bands. Bob responded immediately with a number of
questions about the set and agreed to restore it to its factory
condition. During the process, Bob and I corresponded almost
daily. His attention to detail and insight into the restoration
process were excellent. Taking approximately two weeks, the
receiver was fully restored and sensitivity exceeds the original
manufacturer’s specifications. The HQ-180 now runs daily for both
SWL and amateur activities.
Bob’s attention to detail and knowledge are superb. His workmanship
is excellent and his replacement parts and hourly charges are very
modest. My next “boat-anchor” acquisition will be in Bob’s skilled

I am fortunate to live near Bob. He is a gentleman and a
professional. His shop is well equipped, organized, and well
stocked. Bob has worked on my Drake R-4C receiver and my L-4B
